Mail-in and Absentee Ballot Information

A Mail-in Ballot may be requested by any registered voter. 
In 2019, Pennsylvania joined 27 other states allowing "no excuse" mail-in balloting by signing Act 77 into law with bipartisan support.  

An Absentee Ballot may be requested by voters who will be absent from their municipality on Election Day or voters with disabilities or an illness that prevents them from going to their polling place on election day.  
The deadline to request an Absentee or Mail-in Ballot is 5 pm on the Tuesday before the election.

If the deadline to request a Mail-in or Absentee Ballot has passed but you have an unexpected illness, disability or last-minute absence from your municipality, you can request an emergency Absentee Ballot.  Due to mail processing times, please consider picking up and returning your Emergency Absentee Ballot in-person.  Emergency Absentee Ballot Request

If you are voting in Pennsylvania for the first time or if you are voting at a new polling place, learn how to get ready to go to the polling place on Election Day.

What do I need to prepare?

The first time you vote, you must bring a photo or non-photo ID.

Approved forms of photo identification include:

• Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card
• ID issued by any Commonwealth agency
• ID issued by the U.S. Government
• U.S. passport
• U.S. Armed Forces ID
• Student ID
• Employee ID

If you do not have a photo ID, you can use a non-photo identification that includes your name and address. 

• Confirmation issued by the County Voter Registration Office
• Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
• Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
• Firearm permit
• Current utility bill
• Current bank statement
• Current paycheck
• Government check
